Virtual memory is simulated RAM. When you have use up all your RAM, your computer will shift data to an empty space on the hard drive. Computer swaps data to the hard disk and back to your RAM as needed. When you increase your virtual memory you are increasing the empty space that is reserved for your RAM overflow.
You can easily increase virtual memory by following the steps below.
1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2.Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
3.On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
4.On the Advanced tab, under Virtual memory, click Change.
5.Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file that you want to change.
6.Under Paging file size for selected drive, click to Custom size check box. You can enter the amount of memory you would like to reserve for Virtual memory by entering the initial and maximum size.
7.Click Set
When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
Special Note: You should choose the same amount for the initial size and maximum size. This will Stop your CPU from constantly changing the paging file.My computer is running low on virtual memory how can i fix it?
Windows, by default, sets the virtual ram at 1 1/2 times the size of the installed ram. Virtual ram is a lot slower than installed ram. You can increase the size of the virtual ram like others have shown you but thats just a band-aid. Real fix is to add ram so you don't go into virtual ram in the first place. All increasing the size of the virtual ram will do is allow you to run slow longer. Don't monkey with the size of the registry. If you want to increase the virtual ram increase the size of the paging files. Appears you only have 256MBs of ram since your virtual ram is 384MBs(1.5X256) You need to buy some ram.
You need to click custom size and set min and max to the same number. It's recommended you use 1.5 to 3 times your amount of RAM.I'm guessing by those numbers you have 512MB of RAM,so I'd set them both to 1280,that's 2.5 times your RAM.Make sure you click set before you close any boxes up.I'd leave the registry one alone,it's fine.
If you have any programs or anything on the computer that you don't use anymore, clear them off the computer. Too much stuff on your computer can slow it down a lot.
i strongly recommend you google ccleaner, and download it. it is a very good program, trust me. ive been using it for years. its free. it wont damage ur computer and itll clean it up by deleteing unnccessary files.

Freeing up hard drive space and stopping too many programs running in the background. Use task manger for this or, to stop programs loading when you turn on your computer, use Ccleaner.
Set the page file size to 2000, this will give you 2gig of virtual memory...
Good luck!
