Well I use a lot of Cinema 4d and Photoshop and I would like to change my virtual memory so it will go faster. I only have 2GB or ram right now, so I definately need more. Anyway my virtual memory is at the default 2337MB right now, but I was wanting to change it a lot higher, like 5-10GB. Would this be bad to do, is there any downsides? I have over 100GB of my hard drive free so I have plenty of room for it. Also, would this make a significant difference in the performance of these programs?Changing virtual memory size - how much is too much?
If you don't know how to change it, just ask me. The maximum you can have as a custom size it low#= 2048, %26amp; the high #= 4096. You can set this amount for each drive or partition. I have 7 drives and 4 of these are set alike.Changing virtual memory size - how much is too much?
too much space!
As a general rule of thumb you wouldn't normally change it to higher then 3072MB though you can take it successfully to 4096 MB
While increasing virtual memory can boost performance, it reaches a point of diminishing returns. If the application doesn't require more than 2GB of vmem, then increasing to 10G is no good. Virtual memory is inherently slower than system memory because reading/writing operations on your drive take much longer than io operations on system memory.
Try increasing your vram and if that doesn't work, fork over some cash and boost your RAM to 4G
the size of virtual memory should be same as that of ram, otherwise load on your processor will increase.
If you have a single 2gb ram then size of virtual memory should not be more than 2gb
if you have 1+1=2gb rams then size should not be more than 1gb.
virtual memory technique doesn't make anything faster, it makes things slower, the more you use it the more slow your computer will be! Windows memory management is a failure!
