Might I suggest that you try things that stimulate your mind?

give drawing a try or something artistic

Maybe try writing a story about anything that comes to mind

Go to a museum that you normally wouldn't go to

You might be able to find something that excites you and something you discover to be your passion. Its possible you are just lacking a goal or motivation. set some goals for yourself. have small goals that you can acheive in 1 day. set a few that might take a few months to achieve. and then set some goals for 1 year. It might give you something to work towards and also a sense of accomplishment when you do finally achieve it.I need to change.but i dont know how?

My laptop keeps turning itself off why is this?

Well me and my brother wanted to play on world of Warcraft together and we have a crappy laptop so I wanted to clear loads of junk off it and also use auslogics boostspeed and advanced system care on it. I just went through my files and deleted a lot of stuff. I also increased how much virtual memory I use or something by changing the settings. Now me and my brother play on wow and it's all good but the after like 45 mins of gameplay it just turns off. It only happens on wow we can leave it on all night when it's not on wow. I have done deep virus scans and spyware checks. If it makes any difference the laptop is connected into a 27 inch monitor. Is there anything I might have deleted that could have ruined it?

Thanks ;)My laptop keeps turning itself off why is this?
No you didn't delete anything important... your laptop is just overheating.

Games like WoW require a lot of computation and so it stresses older computers out a lot. This stress makes the computer hot.

If you want to keep playing WoW on this computer then I recommend you buy a ';chill pad';, which is a little platform with a fan in it that will blow air on to the bottom of the laptop and help keep it cool.My laptop keeps turning itself off why is this?
There is this virus called the ';teddy bear virus'; It hacks your system and makes your computer shut down. This has happened to me in the past...I found out that it was that I over used it ...It overheated, But what I did is I took my charger out every so often and put it back in. I did this for a while, then It got better. You could send it away to get fixed it's free. :)
run reginout scan for eradicating registry corruption possibly behind the game crash and auto shutdown

What is 7.82 KB's in MB's?

I need to convert 7.82 KB's (kilobytes) to MB's (Megabytes).

Because the virtual memory for my computer is low so I need to change the amount of MB's. And to find the amount it needed to be I looked at the page info and it said it needed to use 7.82 KB's and my computer needs to know it in MB's to I can't figure out how to convert it im only 13!What is 7.82 KB's in MB's?
1 MB = 1024 KB

1 KB = 1/1024 MB

7.82 KB * 1/1024 = 0.00763671875 MB

Therefore, 7.82KB 鈮?0.00076 MB.

Hope this helps!What is 7.82 KB's in MB's?
7.82KB = 0.00764MB
7.82 kilobytes = 0.00763671875 megabytes
1 KB=0.00098MB

so

7.82 KB=0.00764 MB
7.82/1024 = ...

Virtual Pc 2007 help please...?

Okay i've downloaded Virtual Pc 2007. Everything is fine except i cant get the program to accept any ram from my host system. I have a 448mb memory.

When i go to set up a virtual OS when it comes to deal with adjusting the ram it says 0mb and the end of the spectrum says 0mb as well and i cant and dont know how to change it. how can i get the program to accept ram from my host system?Virtual Pc 2007 help please...?
As a hack, you can try the steps below:

1. Go into Start | All Programs | Accessories | Notepad.

2. Go into File | Open | Open the .vmc file that you made in Virtual PC 2007 (you'll need to change Files of type to All Files in Notepad) and search for the line below:

%26lt;ram_size type=';integer';%26gt;0%26lt;/ram_size%26gt;

3. Change 0 to the amount of memory you want to assign to the guest OS.

4. Save the file, then close it.

  • Is this guy I met on a virtual world older than he says he is?

    I'm 13.

A few years ago I met this guy on a virtual world.

I have a pretty good memory, so everything he said back then (like his age, birthday, full name, brothers age, and some other things) have stayed in my mind. I stopped talking to him for awhile and a few weeks ago started talking again. Now everything has changed. He some how got younger, his birthday isn't the same, his brother is now apparently older than him, and his last name is different. But I guess before he could have been lying and now telling the truth.

Also, he doesn't have a facebook or anything, so I've never seen him, but he did tell me to add this girl on facebook to ask her a question. I added her and looked through her pictures and noticed I'd seen the pictures before. I then realized where I'd seen them; once while looking at pictures of site models. If you don't know what a site model is, its kind of like a model only they don't model things . They give pictures of them self (usually cool pictures) to someone who then puts it on the internet. So the the site model her pictures are of is Jenny Greenwood. And I know sometimes they change their name, so that its not their real name, but this Jenny Greenwood looks around 20. But making a whole facebook with pictures, and people who comment would be hard. All the people who comment are also really pretty(and the guys are hot), and all look like it's been taken off the internet. I mean is it even possible for a whole school to be good looking?

This girl I talked to also knew a lot about him. She knew his exact hight, and about how much trouble he got in at home for getting in trouble at school (like he had to go to some place ((that I forget the name right now)) and that his mom almost through away like all his electron devises.) I mean he could have told her, but still thats a lot of telling. Plus she said I THINK he got sent to (blank place) and got his stuff thrown away. So I guess that means she doesn't really know..?

Do you think I'm being to paranoid? Am I looking at all this too closely, or am I over looking it (are those even opposites? psh look at me trying to be smart;D) Anyway please tell me what YOU think about it.

~Thanks in advance(well if i get answers)~Is this guy I met on a virtual world older than he says he is?
do not talk to him anymore for all you know he could be a psycho path stay away from him he is probably not a good guy be careful

-kkIs this guy I met on a virtual world older than he says he is?
That could be some old man trying to be a perv.......Internet friends are never a good idea in my opinion.... :( maybe I'm the one whos paranoid lol.

How to make your cpu usage lower and make your memmory run more?

How do I go under my Pc and Make My cpu usage run about 12-13 percent instead of 100 and i have 376 memory so how do i get to change to make more memmory run like have 376 run as the virtual memory or the paging File also my specs are AMD-k6(tm) 3D processor 500 Mhz 376 of RAM and indows Xp Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3 and is their any program that will like scan and clean out my systen????????????please help i can really Epriciate it.....鈾モ櫏How to make your cpu usage lower and make your memmory run more?
Try pressing Control-Alt-Del and then check to see if any one program is hogging the processor. Anti-Virus programs are often responsible for this. If so, try using an e-mail provider that scans your e-mails for virus's before forwarding them onto you - saves having to install Anti-Virus on your pc.(Check to see if your ISP offers this service first - a lot seem to now. If they do, uninstall the Anti-Virus program).

Media Centre is designed to work best with 2GB of RAM. It will work with less, but it has to allocate a chunk of the Hard Drive to make up the shortfall and this slows the machine down. So if you can install more, then you will see an improvement.

Its an odd amount of RAM, so perhaps you have an integrated graphics card using some of the RAM too. That being the case, a cheap graphics card would improve general performance. Take care to buy the right type. I suspect your board will have ISA or AGP and PCI slots, but double check to be sure!

The processor is slow by todays standards, but i suspect that funds do not permit an upgrade. If they do, you dont have to spend a fortune, as there are cheap base units out there - see example link below. just find one in your country that is similar.

If you need a software program that cleans your PC for free try CCCleaner. Link below. How to make your cpu usage lower and make your memmory run more?
    Uhm.

You can't unless you physically upgrade your computer.

    Get more RAM...

    And a better processor.

Your processor could always be under 100% load because you're multitasking with an old processor. Or you have a virus that's doing other things in your computer.
Try changing your computer its not up to it

Do you realize that if our reality is a virtual reality, our location never changes?

If we for a moment considered our existence to be part of a virtual program set up by some super advanced beings -- our true location might be reducible to the program's memory locations for our being, our object.

Thus our 'real' time experiences and our true our location would perhaps always remain stationary, at the program's memory location, no matter whether we travel to China, Alaska, Japan, Germany, etc.

All our experiences would have no effect on this one true location, except that of updating its files.

The reason I bring this up is because some years ago, I watched a starfish that had been severed, and its two components had regrown. These components would show signs of still being connected no matter where and how far they were separated.

    Any comments?

Is this possible to scientifically investigate?

I apologize if this is posted in the wrong section!Do you realize that if our reality is a virtual reality, our location never changes?
And why does being in a virtual reality mean that your real location is stationary?

Assuming that your hypothesis was true, and your true location is inside the computer's memory. Is the computer memory not on some planet with the super advanced beings -- rotating on its axis, circling their sun, moving around their galaxy, and/or expanding away from the center of their universe?Do you realize that if our reality is a virtual reality, our location never changes?
    YES!

As I suspected, we are all lying in beds somewhere, hooked to machines.
Outside of being pure hogwash, your assumption that we would always remain stationary is based on the way you think that you might write such a program. Not based on the way someone capable of writing it would.

So your argument is also trivial.
    So where's the red pill?

How do I improve the DMVT system of my 945 intel chipset?

I have an aspire 4710z, 1024 Mb ram, but I am having problems to run games that require more virtual memory. Doing some research I could find out that this DMVT determines how much phisical memory is dislocated to virtual memory. While running the aplication(Medieval II total war) the virtual memory was only 36 Mb. I tried to change the settings on the bios and fixed the virtual memory to 128Mb but it did not resolved my problems. I am starting to think that the game use most of the physical memory and left nothing to the virtual. I could use some help...and sorry for my english, I am brazilian. How do I improve the DMVT system of my 945 intel chipset?
First of all, you have to take into consideration that this is a LAPTOP and not a GAMING desktop. Second of all you can raise your virtual memory from within the operating system. It is an advanced feature mind you. It is the properties of my computer. Just right click My Computer -%26gt; Properties -%26gt; Advanced Tab -%26gt; Performance area, Settings, -%26gt; Advanced Tab -%26gt; Bottom Button, Change -%26gt; then configure it from there.

If you do NOT know what you are doing then DO NOT do anything. You WILL damage your computer and/or make it NOT function properly anymore.

Ive upgraded ram from 576mb to 2gb,but computer still slow?

hi all. ive just upgraded the ram on a computer x.p from 576mb to 2gb. friend recommened changing the virtual ram to 4095, i done this but computer still slow and no re-adjusting message came up. before done upgrade of ram 2gb the virtual ram was set at 576 and max at 1152, was i right to change it to 4095 after the upgrade of 2gb ram

ive read up that its 1.5 x the ram u have installed, but was told by few friends that 4095 virtual ram with 2gb ram installed is ok

ive done plenty of scans, and no viruses etc. i do have hard drive partition, but no sure how this quite works. ram was installed at computer shop and can see it has registered with computer. and can see the change in virtual ram as 4095 in both values so that has changed

would i have to set another virtual ram on the other partition as well?

thanks ahead for any help with thisIve upgraded ram from 576mb to 2gb,but computer still slow?
There are a several reasons why your computer is freezing/slow. First question is when the last time you cleaned your registry. Having a corrupted registry can cause a whole host of errors and problems. Freezing up is one of them. If you have a lot of unnecessary registry keys that are hogging up your computer resources. Your computer is bound to choke. Scan your registry with a good registry cleaner. If you pull up more than 20 errors or duplication, clean your registry.

Go to:http://tpdownload.net get one to free scan your pc

    2. Depending on your RAM specs and your computer usage. This could also be the issue. Having an insufficient amount of free space does not allow your RAM to function properly. If you are using a lot of RAM by net surfing or other activities without enough empty space your will get freezes. You don't need to buy new RAM but you should increase your free space by removing unnecessary data and perhaps increasing your virtual memory. The below link will show you how.

    3. Spyware could be the culprit, so do a scan and see if your computer is infected.

Get the best one from: %26lt;--http://toptenantispyware.com to scan your computer.

    4. That last area is a hardware driver. This could be the problem if new hardware has been added to the system. So, the drivers should still be up to date. So try the first two suggestions and see if you can get your computer to stop freezing/speed up.

Check your drivers. Hope this helps.

Go to:http://tpdownload.net/WhyIsMyComputerSlo learn how to fix it.

Ive upgraded ram from 576mb to 2gb,but computer still slow?
Theres more to the speed of your computer then just the ram, if your computer is still running slow with 2gb of RAM installed then i suggest that you get a new computer
The Speed Of Your Computer Has More To Do With It's Processing Speed (Your CPU) Than How Much Memory There Is On The Hard Drive. A Dual Core Processor Would Operate More Quickly. The Speed Is Also Effected By What's Going On In The Background? If It Is Constantly Scanning Incoming Files For Security It Will Slow Everything Down. It Also Depends If You Have Dial Up Or Broadband And What Speed Of Streaming Is Available?

    I Hope This Helps Mate.
you setup on your machine is fine go to start run and type msconfig

load up only the basics then reboot see if it's still slow if it's fast then you have a lot of items loaded on start up that does not need to be loaded. also you did not state the bus speed of the computer or how fast the hard drive is, that makes a difference to. a ide drive is slower than a sata drive and if you have a raid card you could speed it up by 4 times with the right raid configuration. MY guess it's your hard drive and loaded programs.
I'm not sure what the exactly is causing your problem but

    1) I hope you are not trying to game with that onboard graphics card (SiS 760gx). You may have an AGP slot on you Motherboard that you can install a card into (7 series Nvidia Geforce or a X1xxx series Ati Radeon card). Depends on you're Power Supply too.

    2) Your Proceesor could be too slow for what you're trying to run

    3) You may have loads of adware/spyware on your system so you might want to install and run Spybot Search and Destroy on it.

Most computer users have been trained that if you want more speed for your computer, then add more memory. Well, this is true, in certain circumstances. But for most of the times, it really is just bad files in your registry files. Corrupted or missing registry files can make your computer too slow.

The registry is a main part of your computer's Operating System. With time, as you use Windows and install and uninstall programs, your registry will get congested and full of errors. So your computer could slow down. So, if you can clean it up this problem can be solved.Sometimes you can speed computer up by 300%. To clean up registry,You can download a software called regsitry cleaner---Clean registry, remnant, corrupt files and temp files,history,cookies,etc.. This site:

    http://www.make-pc-fast.com/

lists top 5 registry cleaner, you can download and scan for free.

    Good luck!

My pc was having problems. I ran avg and got rid of the problem I had. But now my pc is sooooo slow and I can't fix it. I've done all the scan disk. defrag. cleaned up un needed files and still slower than slow. sometimes locks up. Sometimes it says my virtual memory is too low. How to I change that? and is that my only problem? Please help. Thanks?Help slow computer. No viruses? What's wrong?
    Try some normal, routine maintenance:

    1. Set wallpaper and screensavers to blank or none — they run continuously in the background and use memory.

-----right-click on the desktop, select Properties

-----click the screensaver tab, on the left where it says ';screensaver,'; select none.

-----click the desktop tab, for background, select none

    2. Review your start menu – remove anything you don’t need on a daily basis — load games, etc. on an as-needed basis.

-----click Start, Settings, Taskbar and Start Menu

    -----click the Start Menu tab

-----select a program you do not want to load at Startup, then click remove.

-----Caution -- do not touch anything you are not sure of or you will mess up your computer royally.

    3. From Internet Explorer, click Tools, Internet Options: delete cookies, delete files (offline), and clear history. (You can also set days to store history to 0.)

----- These actions will clear your computer’s cache. (http://help.yahoo.com/l/ph/yahoo/mail/ac… )

    4. Run Disk Cleanup, Scandisk, Defrag at least every two weeks (the more frequently they are run, the less time they take). These can be found in Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools.

    5. Periodically, click Start, Programs, Run — then type ipconfig renew

    (that’s ipconfig space renew).

    6. Optional: Speed vs Goodies — in the Control Panel, System, Advanced, Performance, Settings — you can have visual effects or let Windows select the best options. I am using “Best Performance.” Your choice.

    7. Speed up Windows Explorer – WindowsXP (from PC World) ? If you are on a network ? Open Windows Explorer, go to Tools, Folder Options, click on the View tab and uncheck Automatically search for network folders and printers-and you'll feel the speed again.

These things should increase speed and free up memory as much as possible.

i know a lot of ppl having unexplained probs like yours with their computers including me lol no idea whats causing it though
Maybe you need some more memory installed.

Time to call a Computer Guru.
AVG free doesn't remove all viruses especially if it is a worm or some vb based file. it doesn't even detects it. Can you see your hidden files if not then their is some virus problem, otherwise find a registry cleaner us it and try to uncheck some programs from the startup and look up in the task manager of running programs that you know nothing about and there source is unknown they might be viruses
    start%26gt;run%26gt;msconfig

go to the last tab, click ';disable all'; then click apply, then ok. it will prompt u to restart your computer. do it.

    IF it still is slow:

    mycomputer%26gt; right click%26gt;properties%26gt; advanced%26gt; 1st settings button%26gt;

and click ADJUST FOR BEST PERFORMANCE

    click apply

    click ok

    restart computer...

    IFFFF ITS STILL SLOW

if all that fails, get a new computer lol
so was it ever slow before?

If its an older computer the CPU (the place that does all the calculations for the computer) might be getting old.

Considering with all the new programs and advancements with computer programs its probably working overtime to work for you.
AVG is not great, so may not have picked up everything, and you do not have anti-spyware. Uninstall AVG and get these:

Avira: http://www.free-av.com/ (if you don't have anti-virus, or if you have Norton or AVG replace it with this)

Spyware Terminator (turn off web security guard): http://www.spywareterminator.com/

    Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/ (use immunise feature)

    Superantispyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/

Comodo: http://comodofirewall.notlong.com/ (turn off defense+ to see fewer alerts)

Update all and scan your computer, removing or quarantining what is found.

If that fails, try installing more RAM.

Check what you need with http://www.crucial.com/
Your computer might not have enough ram. you could increase the virtual memory, but that probably won't make it too much faster.

to increase the virtual memory go to:

Start %26gt; Control Panel %26gt; System %26gt; Advanced %26gt; click the settings button in the performance box and a new window opens %26gt; click advanced %26gt; click change in the virtual memory area.

Now set the size of the virtual memory to about 1000, and the max size to about 1200, click set. NOTE: If the virtual memory was set to off this would explain all your problems.

The changes may need a restart to take effect.
The previous examples dealt with good software gone bad. Now for the software that was conceived to be bad right from the start: Enter viruses, worms, Trojans and all kinds of spyware. Some of these will slow your computer intentionally. For the others it will be a side effect. But the unfortunate result is the same: your computer will be painfully slow, spy on you, and will attempt to infect other computers. So, if you noticed that your computer is running slower than it used to, this is a good indication that it may be infected by some type of malware. And often one malware program will try to bring its friends to join the party inside your computer. If you don't want this to happen, keep your computer clean!

    Computer running very slowly.....please help?

my computer (laptop actually) is running very slowly. it was ok (still slow) before i updated my McAfee virus software, but once i updated it,it began to take up to 15 minutes to fully start up.also,i can no longer manually de-frag my computer, mcafee does it for me...however i have not noticed a change in my computers speed.

when windows virtual memory is too low, it gives me an option to delete old files and stuff, and it scans it,does anyone know how to do this without thel ittle bubble telling me to?

does anyone know how to make my laptop run faster?

also, i have windows live messenger, but my computer started making that go reallllly slow,so atm im re-installing it,and making sure i click 'allow acess' lol

    can anyone help me?

(its only a few years old,has broadband, and is always connected to the power)Computer running very slowly.....please help?
I use a laptop as well - thus - Questions in return

Is McAfee set to scan at start-up?

I'd almost be willing to bet it is and if so, there's your problem.

With every thing else that launches at start up - a scan is the last thing ya need.

A note on de-frag. You can still de-frag via system tools but make sure everything is turned off as anything running in the background will confuse (for lack of a better term) de-frag and it will attempt to start over from the beginning (I just hate that burning feeling I get from endless looping).

You almost mention age of computer, what do you have for expanded memory? It might be time to add or upgrade.

(edited answer to include this) - as this added memory ';space'; would help your virtual memory problem.

Live messenger has a few problems... so re-install... might not help as much as you'd hope.

    Well... hope that helps

Take careComputer running very slowly.....please help?
    try to restart it
download this free program, fix ya right up. http://iobit.com/. (advanced windows care). Good luck. Mikie.
    Hi,

I don't trust McAfee, I used to installed in my computer, once I removed it, my whole computer break down and need to intall Window again. It look like a virus itself. I use Norton.

By the way, try to put in your Windows installation disk and repair your windows.

    good luck.

then select before you updated mcafe

mcCafe is the type of program (like norton) that tells you to update, if you dont they will send you a virus that your current mcCafe (or norton) cant detect and will crash your computer...

try Kasperski(dont know how to spell it) its a Russan antivirus (ironicly) russans are notorious for hacking and craking software and developing viruses, they finaly made somthing to help you. its very nice. im using it for ages and happy. if you do use it be aware the computer makes a funny scream when it finds a virus.

oh and, my friend installed norton on his MAC computer... he didnt update it, his MAC screwed up from a virus within a week...a MAC, have you ever heard of that?

PC games have faulty graphics? Help!!!! WILL CHOOSE A BEST ANSWER!?

It's happening on both my games Spore and Portal, so it's not just scratched discs.

Ok, to turn the graphics quality down, there is usually a graphics option in the Options menu.

But you need a better processor or graphics card or both. Your computer can't run them, it's not good enough.PC games have faulty graphics? Help!!!! WILL CHOOSE A BEST ANSWER!?
its happend too me before when i tried playing zeno clash. reinstalling the game should work if not i would contact steam or valve about your problem

PC Games with faulty graphics and eventually crashing?

It's happening on both my games Spore and Portal, so it's not just scratched discs.

    These 2 messages keep appearing?

    1. ';Default search change attempt blocked.';

    2. ';Virtual memory low.';

PLEASE tell me more about these issues and how to clean it up. VERY slow and keeps freezing up.

    Thank you!

(Step by step in english please!)These 2 messages keep appearing?
The first one usually means that something is trying to change your internet home page. To solve this run a good virus scan (mcafee or norton or f-secure) and also run an antispyware program like spysweeper and Hitman Pro.

For the seccond error that you are getting check to see how much space is left on your hard drive to do that right click on the start menu and select explore. Right click on the C: Drive and go to properties. you should now see a pie chart that has Blue and Pink in it. across from the blue it show how much of your hard drive is used and beside the pink it shows how much free space there is. Above the pie chart it says capacity for you hard drive. Depending on how big your harddrive is you want to make sure that the used space isn't the size of the harddrive. (eg harddrive capacity=20GB and used space=19.4Gb then there is a problem)

If there is too much blue then what you want to do is clear up some space on your computer by deleting stuff off of it. You then want to do a defragmentation. to do a defrag one the window that has the pie chart click on the tools tab and select defrag.

Hope that helpsThese 2 messages keep appearing?
    1. ';Default search change attempt blocked.';

means your AV or antispware program block an attemt to hijack your explorer.

    .2. ';Virtual memory low.';

mean you need to do a clean up:

Follow the instructions on this page should sort out your problem, let me know if its works.
you should be able just to clean up your memory and fix that.
I agree with Sly. You may also need more RAM...
    Don't know first one.

Second one you may need to defragment your system and get rid of cookies and spam and various bits of unwanted stuff from the C drive. How to do that depends on whether you have Vista, or Windows XP, or older.
I agree with the others. I also don't know about #1, but you can get in touch with me if you need help with #2.
I am quite sorry my dear but I am lost on both of these points. I just wanted to stop by and say ';Good Morning';, or is it almost ';Good Afternoon';. I cannot believe it is Thursday already. I haven't gotten hardly anything done this week because my Granddaughter has been sick on top of everything thing else. When she cannot go to daycare I take care of her here in the my home office which means I really cannot get much done. She is my heart and soul of course. I cannot ';chat'; because I will get a violation. Wish I could help you. I truly don't know!!!

  • Adding another hard drive to my computer - Can I install programs to my new one?

Hey I have a ide 250gb Hard Drive and was going to get another one. I know to set it to slave before installing it to my computer, after that will it show up in 'my computer'?

I have a few others questions too (answer what you know thanks heaps)

    - To install programs to my slave/new hard drive, Do i just change the installation path when i am installing the program?

    - Will installing a program on my new hard drive (The one i have now has 104gb left) make the program run any faster/slower?

    - Will my computer/the programs run any faster?

    - If I set my virtual memory to run on my new hard drive which will have most of it free space will it run faster than setting virtual memory on my current hard drive? and what should i set the virtual memory to be (I have 1.5gb Ram)

Final question, Can i install lets say ubuntu on my new hard drive and if so do I set it as slave or master? And how can I choose what OS to boot up at?

Sorry about all the questions but just answer what you can. Thanks!Adding another hard drive to my computer - Can I install programs to my new one?
Once your new hard drive shows up on ';My Computer'; identify the drive letter.

-- To install new programs on the new drive, just change the installation path to this drive, when you install new programs.

-- I dont think the program will run faster, unless the new hard disk itself is faster. If the new hard drive's read/write cycle time, rotation speeds are faster, it may make a difference.

-- Again setting virtual memory on the new drive will not make it any faster unless the reason is hardware specific as mentioned in previous point.

I dont know about your last question.Adding another hard drive to my computer - Can I install programs to my new one?
    - yes you just need to change the installation path and the program will be installed on your new hard drive

    - the program / computer will not run any faster or slower whichever hard drive you choose. this matter is affected by your cpu and ram speeds. however a full hd will have an effect on your virtual memory which may slow down your system.
Your new hard drive should be the same as your old one, so anything you can do wioth your old hard drive can be done with the new one.

As for Ubuntu, with all Linux distros, there is an option to install a boot loader, either GRUB or LILO. A boot loader is a splash that shows up when you boot your computer, allowing you to select the desired operating system with arrow keys.
since you have a 250 gb harddisk, it would be better if you shift your datas to your new drive and gain some free space and install the programs in the same drive. since your OS will be in you older drive, the performance will definitely better if you install in the same drive.

about your next question, as others have also already answered, yeah you can install ubuntu or any other Linux operating systems in that drive. you'll get a boot menu when u start your computer and u can just switch to any OS you wish.

I now to set it to slave before installing it to my computer, after that will it show up in 'my computer'?

#Yes if it is first partitioned and then formatted to FAT32 or preferably NTFS - if it is not, look up both on the internet to find out how to do this. An un-partitioned unformatted drive will not show up in 'my computer' although it may in administrator tools- computer management- disk management in XP and above

    - To install programs to my slave/new hard drive, Do i just change the installation path when I am installing the program?

    # Yes this is exactly what you do - but bear in mind that for many programmes some files will still be installed to the boot hard drive i.e sometimes in the root - in C: maybe some in common folders in C:/ program files and some in windows or windows-system or windows -system32.

So if you install programs on the second drive and later change or reinstall your boot windows system on your first/boot drive you will probably still have to reinstall any programs that are installed to your new drive

-Will installing a program on my new hard drive (The one I have now has 104gb left) make the program run any faster/slower?

    # maybe a bit faster but not any slower - but not significantly even if it is a faster hard drive as this is dependant on other things as well. However if your exsisting disk is really struggling for space to store files and for virtual memory it could help quite a bit with VM set up on the new second disk. However if you really have 104GB left it will not be struggling........... as this is a reasonable amount of space - are you sure you do not mean 104MB! left on your exsisting disk? then a new disk will increase speed but it would still be advisable to move as many files as you can to your new disk to make more space on your boot disk

    - Will my computer/the programs run any faster?

    #Same answer as above

    - If I set my virtual memory to run on

my new hard drive which will have most of it free space will it run faster than setting virtual memory on my current hard drive? and what should i set the virtual memory to be (I have 1.5gb Ram)

#Yes this might increase speed and under XP onwards you can have every hard disk used for virtual memory not just your boot disk. If you have both disks set to use virtual memory just set it so windows allocates the size on each disk - in XP or Vista go to disk management in Administrative tools - computer management to set this.

You could set the new disk to a fixed amount of virtual memory - if so just give it the largest amount you feel you can spare .

But if your boot drive is really short on space, leave it without any virtual memory and just use the second one for this only. I reccomend having VM on both disks and within some programs you can specify what disks to use as a 'scratch/VM disk' if you can specify within programs too.

Final question, Can i install lets say ubuntu on my new hard drive and if so do I set it as slave or master? And how can I choose what OS to boot up at?

#Leave you new drive a slave or your windows may not work -

You can install any linux version to any unused or sometimes un-partitioned space on any drive( master or slave boot or not) - if you are thinking of doing this it is best to leave enough un-partitioned space on your new drive when you install/partition /format it

Most linux versions installed when a windows version is already on another disk or partition on a PC will install a boot manager in the root of your boot drive - I am sure ubuntu does( whatever drive or partition you actually install Linux the boot manager will go on your boot drive) which will allow you to boot to windows or to Linux at start up.

As you install Linux on your new hard drive the Linux installation programme should give you options to set this upAdding another hard drive to my computer - Can I install programs to my new one?
Burning Brightly is more or less right. It will automatically show, but it is generally best to use your new drive only for putting data onto: keep progs on your C drive which is where they are installed by default. Putting your virtual mem on your new drive (and removing all from your C drive) should increase your speed (recommended in my Win2K help) Maybe 1.5 times your RAM. It is best to put Ubuntu onto your C drive and you can boot from either. I do not know how to do that.
You can do the lot ~~

Why do i constanly get ';internet explorer not responding'; when i try to get on a page ?

when i do manage to get on, its constantly freezing, and i cant do anything.Ive tried clearing cookies and caches, do frequent anti-virus scans, and even tried installing a new browser ( google chrome), all to no avail. and now im getting ';virtual memory too low';, how do i change it?..thanks in advance for any answersWhy do i constanly get ';internet explorer not responding'; when i try to get on a page ?
First, are you running Internet Explorer 8?

Since you have cleared your cache and ran anti-virus and malware scans you can try:

Running sfc /scannow and at the end reboot if asked for. This will replace corrupted system files if any.

If you find it running OK, then the problem is most probably caused by an addon. In that case you have two options :

    - Use the manage Add-ons tool, and disable each one after the other to find out which one is causing the problem.

    - In Internet Options, go to Advanced Tab and click on Reset tab. Restart IE. This step deletes all temp files, disables any add-ons, plug-ins, toolbars and also resets all changed settings to default. Although this is a quick-fix, you will have to re-install the add-ons.

If you feel the need to Repair Internet Explorer, then this article will guide you http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windo

pretty wide open question, what is your memory usage? operating system? how old is your computer? you may need to add more memory.
If you click too fast, it will open many of the program windows. Ctrl, alt, delete works if it goes to task manager. Close the program using the manager. Then get on about a minute later. I think your computer might be old. You can try a computer specialist. They see this all the time. :-)

How can i get more RAM for installing Vista?

I'm trying to install Vista Home Premium on my pc but it always says that i only have 250mb or RAM and i need more. I looked up the microsoft website to see how to fix this problem, and i came to a page that said i could get more RAM manualy by ajusting the RAM by right clicking on My Computer, going to Properties/ Advanced/ Performance/ Settings/ Advanced then Virtual Memory, clicking on Change going to Custom size and changing the ammount in Initial Size and Maximum size, but this doesn't help. Is there any way to do it by using my HDD for RAM? Or do i HAVE to buy more? Also i have a 160gb external HDD, is there any way i can incorperate this into solving the problem or getting more RAM?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated, thanx =]How can i get more RAM for installing Vista?
Vista needs at least 2GB of Ram. You will have to physically add more to the Motherboard.

If you only had 250mb to start with I doubt your computer can run Vista without serious lag.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsHow can i get more RAM for installing Vista?
RAM = physical memory, which can pretty much only be purchased and added on

ROM = hard drive and under normal circumstances virtual memory

Increasing your virtual memory will not increase your RAM.

You will not be able to use readyboost to increase your RAM to install vista (Why? readyboost will only be active once Vista is installed... Vista will not install on 256mb of RAM).
The quick and simple answer: You will need to buy more RAM.

How Can I Solve A ';Paging File Error - ';Limited Virtual Memory';?

    Second Method:

Right click ';My Computer';==%26gt;click Properties==%26gt; and the rest of the procedure is the same.

Since, i observed that upon restarting the PC the virtual memorey is again restored to the previous value(before restarting)., and is not saved/applied prmanently. Let me know how to come up this issue, or state any workaround for it.

Thanks. How Can I Solve A ';Paging File Error - ';Limited Virtual Memory';?
you need to click the SET button after changing the valueHow Can I Solve A ';Paging File Error - ';Limited Virtual Memory';?
check this video on clearing the pagefile (virtual memory)don't worry it will still be there but cleared of old data

    then you can leave the virtual memory set to ';system managed';

another thing is add more physical memory then you need less virtual memory
After you change the value, be sure to hit SET before you close the window or it won't save it. And you don't have to re-boot unless it asks you to.

How do i change my harddisk letter or share harddisks?

ok, so i have 2 harddrives

a windows (C:) drive of 100gb (pre installed)

and a Western Digital (D:) of 1 TB

now the problem is that i've run out of memory on the windows (C:) drive,

is there a possible way that i could change my secondary Western Digital drive into the (C:) and the windows drive into the primary drive,

so that when i download certain things it will store automaticly on the western digital instead of the full windows drive and stores virtual memory on the Western digital, or is there a way so i can combine these 2 hardisks and make them share files. Now i really can't do anything because i have no space to store memory on, and i dont know how to make my pc put files and virtual memory automaticly on my 1TB Harddisk! How do i change my harddisk letter or share harddisks?
To download and store files on the bigger drive all you have to do is change to the bigger drives D letter when asked where to save to. You can also drag and drop files from your C drive to your D drive to free up space on C.How do i change my harddisk letter or share harddisks?
You can't change the default drive from memory, the way we do it is back up your computer completely on an Xternal HDD, reformat your computer using the Windows install and create seperate partitions, if you do not know how to do this, please let me no :)
Use DriveImage XML to do a disc to disc transfer from the C drive to the D drive. Swap the data cables on the 2 drives to make the 1TB drive the boot drive.
THIS METHOD IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR EXTERNAL HD

you can either take more space to c from d or combine them together , but 1st option is more safe .

right click on my computer , then manage , disk management , right click on d then shrink volume , take the space you want , then ok or apply , then restart pc .

after restarting go to disk management described above and right click on c then choose extend volume then take all that space which you previously taken from d .

    that's it .
Is the Western Digital internal or is it a USB drive?

You can move your swap space to a different drive in the Advances System Properties, but if your drive is external, then this is not recommended. It will be super slow and may cause you trouble if the external is not on when you want to use your computer.

  • How do i add more ram to my computer?

My computer occasionally tells me that it is low on virtual memory (usually when we are putting movie clips together using movie maker). I did ask the question about virtual memory before and got some good answers about adjusting settings but some advised it is better to get more ram than to play with settings. I am not a technician but have tinkered and had the box open on several of my computers before to change cd units etc and i am aware of the static and to discharge before doing anything like this, but could ram be added externaly via a port ??.How do i add more ram to my computer?
You need to find out what type of RAM you have (It is most likely DDR2) and then go to the store and purchase RAM (Make sure it is the same size as well, or just completely replace your RAM)

You then have to open up your computer and just stick the ram into the ram slots, takes about 10 seconds to install, really easy.

If you need any help post on my forums and ill help you out. It's in my sources. How do i add more ram to my computer?
To my knowledge RAM is a core component of the computer, and cannot be installed anywhere but directly into slots on the motherboard. I would look up the spec sheet for your computer, find which type of ram your motherboard takes, and then goto Newegg.com and search for that type.
You have to open up your computer in order to install RAM, and it has to be the right type. Find a Tutorial on installing RAM on Google, and use Crucial's(crucial.com) Computer Scanner to determine what type you need.
open start menu---click run (if dell or whatever) or if its a vista running computer, then just type in on ';start search'; dxdiag and hit enter. then click okay or yes or whatever it says. this will tell u mostly what u need to know
Check out the site I linked below, and scan your computer. It will tell you everything you need to know.
No, RAM must be added to the mother board, which has between 2-8 slots for the ram (you'd really only see 8 or more slots on a server, most home computers have 2-4) Generally you put the Dimms in in pairs (though not nessacary anymore). Basicly, you get your ram, shut down the computer, you can leave it plugged in (this is actually good as it keeps the computer case grounded) then making sure your static free (touch the chasis of the grounded pc) open the ram, release the hold down clips, it is keyed to only fit into the slot one way, put it in, then press straight down, until the two white/beige tabs lock into the memory (that's how you know it's all the way in) Close up the pc and boot it up (you will probably get a notification that says something to the effect of ';memory config has changed do you want to save the changes? press F1 to continue.) Do so, the computer will reboot and go into your O/S.

Why does Sims 2 Deluxe cause my computer to shut down on its own?

I just installed Sims 2 Deluxe on my computer yesterday, and now I can't play the game without having my computer shut itself down. I can't get in more than 5 or 10 (fifteen if I'm lucky) minutes of game play before it quits. It's done this before, but only sometimes during a game (usually flash) and not as frequently. Full virus scans have found nothing, and defragmenting the computer improved the game's speed and performance, but did nothing about the computer shutting down. I've checked for overheating and did some light dusting around the fans, made sure everything was connected right, and tried some suggestions from Yahoo answers, like changing the restart options and virtual memory on the computer. Nothing I do seems to be working. One funny thing I noticed, though, is that it almost always turns off when I'm saving my game, oftentimes the third save I can get in. Any idea as to how I can play Sims without interruption? Why does Sims 2 Deluxe cause my computer to shut down on its own?
The game should not do this.

If you computer turns itself off completely, you have a overheating processor. My bet is that this is your problem, because you said that it has done it before.

In other words, the processor generates heat as it works, and if it overheated the thermal protection system will turn it off.

Your game is causing the processor to work harder than normal, and the heat builds quicker, and flips the breaker.

If it just reboots instead of shutting down, more than likely you have a corrupted windows installation, a software or a hardware problem.

Go to Start%26gt;Control Panel%26gt;Administrative Tasks%26gt;and select the Event Viewer. This will bring up an interface where you can see if Windows is trying to tell what is wrong.

On the left side, choose Applications (software), and the right screen will show you a list of messages. A lot of red means trouble, ignore the yellow and white.

Now choose System (hardware), and look for any red warnings.

If there are any red items double click on them and see if you can tell what the error is.

If both of these are clean I would REALLY suspect the overheating issue. Buy a new CPU fan.

As a side note, a failing CDROM will sometimes do this. Why does Sims 2 Deluxe cause my computer to shut down on its own?
Udate your antivirus and scan your coputer in safe mode. After you remove virus, I recommend you use firefox browser. It is safer than IE. It can prevent viruses such as worm, trojan and etc. The newest official edition of firefox can be downloaded from http://www.mollzia.com

How can my computer run XP on 49.66+MB of Physical Memory?

I noticed my HP Pavilion XL866i was running very slow so I went to Start-%26gt;Programs-%26gt;Accessories-%26gt;Systems Tools-%26gt;System Information. After a short loading period here's what it said for memory:

    Total Physical Memory 255.48MB

Available Physical Memory 49.66MB....this number changed to 54.57MB while I was preparing this question.....I did it again and it shows 54.18MB of Available Physical Memory......?

What has happened to my memory? And how could a computer running Windows XP Home with SP2 run on that.

I went to Crucial Memory and scanned my memory.....it said this computer can hold a maximum 512MB of memory in two slots; 256MB per slot...........but it shows both of slots empty!!

What's going on? How can I verify what I have without going into the case and looking. Besides, even if it has one stick of 256MB SDRAM it must be bad or something. Help!!

BYW, System Information shows my Total Virtual Memory as 2.0GB and Available Virtual Memory as 1.96MB.How can my computer run XP on 49.66+MB of Physical Memory?
No your RAM is not bad. If you READ it says 54.18MB of AVAILABLE RAM basically that is the amount not being used by windows. You are using up the other 200 MB of your RAM.

It would be a really good idea to upgrade your RAM to 512 Crucial.com shows 2 slots empty just to tell you that you have 2 slots its not showing you what you currently have.

It's really easy to open the side panel and look to make sure u have 1 256 stick and not 2 x 128 sticks. Just take out 1 or 2 screws from the side panel and look in there. If you really are against it you can download CPU-Z and it will tell you what you have in each slot.

    http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

    Good Luck HTH.

Then you'll have to buy 2 x 256 MB sticks of RAM.

Note to Wuddersup: You thieving lil bastard! You wrote your first section then saw what I said and copied all of my answer to yours word for word. What a piece of crap you are! BITER!How can my computer run XP on 49.66+MB of Physical Memory?
It looks like you have one stick of 256MB for memory (RAM). However, your computer is using 200MB of that for processes (programs).

Windows isn't running on 46.66 MB of memory. It is the reason you only have 46 MB of memory left. It is using the other 210 MB of memory
Windows use a lot of Memory, if you only have 256mb, it wil be used up quite easily depending on what you are doing.

When the amount of RAM available becomes low, windows turns to Virtual Memory, a space on your hard drive that windows use like a memory.

When windows is dependent more on virtual memory, it can slow down your system because it reads and writes to the hard drive often.

Memory swap: could someone please explain this to me?

I have an apple powerbook g4 with tiger 10.4.6. I also have Istat Nano, a program to see how your computer is running. In the memory section there is a part that says ';Swap'; then it lists a certain number of megabytes. I was just curious what this is and why sometime's it list 1.5 gb when I only have 768mg of RAM. Obviously it is digging into the virtual memory making my computer slower? How is the number calculated? Does it change often? Thank youMemory swap: could someone please explain this to me?
A swap is a file located on your hard-drive, which IS the virtual memory. It acts as a storage place for memory when it is not in use. The size of the swap file is generally increased depending on the need for memory.

When I go to Help and support under Status info it says my virtual memory is too low at D: 37% low and C: 17% low. But when I go to System info it says Total Virtual Memory is 2.00 GB and Available Virtual Memory 1.94. This just doesnt make sense to me. I have Windows XP and I just added a 512 RAM stick of memory cause I thought It might help this although it has speeded it up it hasnt changed the amount of Virtual Memory at all. How do you get more Virtual Memory? Isnt Virtual Memory actually on your hard drive so adding more Rams really wouldnt help anyway? Can somebody help me with this that is really good at computers? ThanksSomethings wrong with my computer Read on for details?
Yes, Virtual Memory is that section of the hard drive that the RAM uses for file swapping and temporary storage while it is working with other things.

Virtual Memory can get too low for a number of reasons, not the least of which is need for more. You adjust the size of Virtual Memory in the control Panel. Open the System Icon, then go to the Advanced Tab, Performance Button, Advanced Tab and at the bottom you can set the size of the Virtual Memory. It is actually a good idea to let Windows Manage this and not set it yourself.

Other things which can cause VM problems are spyware and Adware which clog up your RAM. RAM will then use theVM a lot for swappiing when there is a lot of Spyware resident in the Memory. I recommend 3 goodprograms to get rid of Spyware.

    Adaware SE Personal

    Spybot Search and Destroy

    Microsoft Defender.

A PC Magazine recently did some experiments which proved that these three programs, when used in concert, were the best in getting rid of Adware/Spyware and Malware.

Update them REGULARLY, Run Scans REGULARLY as you do with your Virus Scan. (You DO update your virus scan regularly, right? and you do run scans with it regularly, right?....good.)Somethings wrong with my computer Read on for details?
Free up some disk space by uninstalling old programs, removing useless material. Run defrag or download and run RegSeeker by Hover, Inc.

Or, in the alternative add more RAM. It is simple and easy to install.
Yes Virtual Memory is on your Hard drive. What would do you best is a large hard drive Windows XP should get 100-200gb

But in Windows XP, If your Virtual Memory shortage is too low then Windows XP will throw you a bubble and if you click it it will give you enough. But since you added more memory then you shouldn't need more

How do I solve my computer reboot error issue?

My computer is constantly rebooting automatically and shows a serious error message when its on again. It's really driving me crazy and I've already tried doing the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317277 workaround:

You can solve this problem by recreating the pagefile. To re-create the pagefile, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start.

    2. Right-click My Computer.

    3. Click Properties.

    4. On the Advanced tab, in the Performance section, click Settings.

    5. In the Virtual Memory section, click Change.

    6. For Paging file size for selected drive, click No Paging File, and then click Set.

    7. Click Yes after the following warning appears:

If the paging file on volume X: has an initial size of less than xx megabytes, then the system may not be able to create a debugging information file if a STOP error occurs. Continue anyway?

(X is the drive letter and xx is the amount of RAM installed on your computer minus 1 megabyte.)

    8. Click System Managed Size.

    9. Click OK four times, and then restart the computer when you are prompted.

(^ It doesn't help at all..)

I've tried to install the service pack but its far from the latest, being the 2004 service patch and I can't find any more current help and support topics.

What they are refering to is called the page file. This is a section of the hard drive that is used for virtual ram. This should always be set to at least 1.5 times the actual ram amount. I would have to tell you that this set by windows, so if you were trying to install and vista said no. There would be nothing you could do. Besides Vista needs a little more ram than XP did, especially if you are moving to vista because you like it's looks and eye candy.

On th bright side, ram is cheap now days. All you do is buy it, crack the case, and stick it in. There is a little more to it than that, but as for physical work, that's it. Make sure you check out what kind of ram you already have and make it match (you can put in one with a larger amount on it, just make sure latency, frequency and such match). Or you could just buy all new ram, but make sure it compatible with your machine.

Make sure whatever you choose to do, that you put the largest dimm in the #1(farthest left) slot. How can i get more RAM for installing vista?
Virtual memory IS using your hard drive as RAM. Although its not recommended because your hard drive is so much slower then RAM.

Running 4 tabs of Firefox, Steam and Vista is using 1.3 GB of RAM on my computer. If you were to use 1 GB of virtual memory as your RAM your computer would run so incredibly slow. You either need to buy more RAM sticks or buy a new computer.
As another poster stated...Virtual Memory IS using your HDD...and the more VM you use, the faster your HDD will need replacing.

It would have helped had you posted your PC's stats so we could tell you exactly what the issue is...but, in any case, if you go to the Microsoft (not MSN) website. Or, just use the link below and click on the blue bar that says ';Download Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor';. It will tell you if your computer can RUN Vista.

As for RAM...to run Vista well, you'll need about 2gb minimum, because Vista monopolises a full gigabyte to itself, and if you're only running 1gb, any programs you run will have to fight the OS for resources.

    Good Luck!

RAM is MUCH MUCH MUCH faster than a HDD... like 1000x faster. sure you can use the hard disk to let you use more programs (called 'virtual memory' or a 'page/paging file'), but it is VERY slow. you will need to bu more ram, but lower quality ram (all you should need unless you have a special purpose for good stuff) will only cost about aud$30-40 for 1 gig. i would suggest 2gb for vista, but it does work with 1 gb.

ask the people in the shop what kind of ram you will need, they will be able to tell you easily. if you want to find out yourself (a bit techo though) use a prgram call 'cpu-z' from cpuid.com. it'll tell you how much and what type your computer can use.\

good luck! How can i get more RAM for installing Vista?
Changing the size of your virtual memory (page file) isn't going to help. You need to buy more. To run Vista, get a minimum of 2GB of RAM. It's easy enough to install. Make sure that your machine can accept that much memory. If it's an older, slower machine it's not going to run Vista very well anyway, so you may want to consider a new computer, or else don't run Vista.

It sounds like you have a pretty slow processor, or you don't have much RAM installed.

Check how much RAM you have installed, and also let me know what processor you have, and I'll be able to be more of a help.
If you have a small amount of RAM, i suggest you upgrade that to at least 1 gig/ maybe 2 if u can afford it.

secondly, the more applications you have running the slower your system will be. running intense games that require a lot of ram and then running music and then adding something like MSN to it will slow your system dramatically. Doing this is like asking someone to play table tennis while eating their dinner. which is kinda hard to do. So your system will attempt it and go very slow.

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause ';computer slow';.

Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

it's called your video card probably sucks. you also probably need more RAM on your computer. Also, when your playing, close out of all other programs you might have open and don't need to have open. computers can only do so much at one time and if you got tons of things going on at once, it will slow down your game. i didn't even know they had RE4 for PC. hope that helped.

It sounds like you just need to clear some hard disk space on your main drive (likely C:)

If you don't have enough space on your hard drive, there's only so much defragging can do. Do you have at least 10% free disk space?

click start- then right click my computer, select properties, then click the advanced tab, click the performance button, then the advenced tab, then in the virtual memory box click change, click custom size, then type 600 in each of the boxes, apply and ok your way out, restart and you're done.

How do I Optimize my Virtual Memory on Windows XP?

Well I'm just trying to figure out a way to increase my fps on Computer Games. When I first got this computer it had amazing fps, and over the years it sort of wear'ed down I guess. I have reformatted a few times in the past to help fix this issue, but nowadays it hardly does anything.

So I have been Trying to lower as many settings on my

computer as possible to get best performance. Like

for example in the ';System Properties, Advanced,

Performance, under the Visual Effects tab';. I also

noticed the whole Virtual Memory thingie, and I was

wondering what I should do to maximize its use

for games. I hear changing it doesn't do much, but

I'll take whatever I can get.

I'm currently running Windows XP with 2GB RAM (it says 1.99gb on system properties), 2 drives on my HD (Drive C:System Drive, 29.2gb max size) (Drive D: 78.1 Max size), and like 40gb of unused HD space.

So if you know what I should enter in the paging size thingie or know anything else I could do to enhance performance without spending money or adding stuff to my computer

like more RAM that I really cant afford, I would much

    appreciate it.

Also no need to ask me I have a clean/well maintained

computer and whatnot. I just recently reformatted and have

Comodo Firewall, Ad-aware, Avira Antivirus, Superantispyware,

along with lots of other security programs. Along with

Ccleaner, Revo Uninstaller, Defrag on both drives. So I'm

sure to keep my computer cleaned out of all types of

crap and defrag'd on a weekly basis.

So please if you know anything else I can do to enhance I

would EXTREEEEEEEEMLY appreciate it. And if you

need any other info about my computer to help me, just

    let me know.

*Also if you're going to tell me something, please put it in step

by step format, as I'm sure I won't understand entirely*How do I Optimize my Virtual Memory on Windows XP?
First: The visual effect doesn't really affect performance for gamer.

I am sure that the thing slows down your computer is that you employ too many guards on your computer. This will slow down data transfer in memory, create more interrupt, and makes your CPU work harder.

Second: More RAM wouldn't help you, since XP won't run better if you install more than 2GB RAM.

Reduce your running tasks. When no programs running, press Ctrl-Alt-Del, and watch at task bar, how many proccesses currently running. If there are more than 35 or more than 40 processes, you mus uninstall several anti virus/anti spyware.

Use only one good anti virus, and one good anti spyware. 3rd party firewall is an option, but if you already have one security suite and update them, that was enough.

Third: Changing virtual memory in better way.

You already have 2GB RAM, I would reccomend you to sets virtual memory not too large. You can sets to 1000MB (Both minimum and Maximum).

The better is sets virtual memory to other phisycal drive, 1000MB is enough, and sets at boot drive (C:) sets min and max equal to 384 or 512MB.

Four: Install some performance tweaking program.

I reccomend: CachemanXP. You can find this program at.

http://www.outertech.comHow do I Optimize my Virtual Memory on Windows XP?
Have you used the Ubuntu Linux it is fast to.

Look at is on you tube

    http://www.youtube.com/results?search_ty
In order to optimize you virtual memory just go to ';My Computer Icon'; then right click on it then select properties the windows will display and choose the ';Advance tab''; click the performance setting then it will pop up. After than choose the another ';advance tab'; then change the virtual memory.
The problem is Microsoft will not spend a whole lot of money on Software updates.

Why they are on the urge of retiring XP that OS.

So what does this mean the update you are getting are old, old updates will slow the system down.

And then it becomes vulnerable to open software infections, the problem is people do not take time to read those updates and find out their dates. Service pack three is only a collection of the last few years of updates. THE Company is launching new operating systems so they will not spend money on something they are looking forward to retiring.

Take time out and read the material that is going into your system. you will be surprised to find out those updates are out of date.

What should the minimum and maximum virtual memory values be?

I have read other questions on how to fix low memory so I have no problem getting to that point, but I don't know what I should set the values to in the minimum and maximum fields. I am an average computer user and I don't run any special programs that require large amounts of memory. I mostly use the internet, microsoft programs, and itunes. I have had the low virtual memory message come up and I have blindly tried fixing it myself the past month changing and playing with a few numbers myself, but it hasn't helped. I am in the process of cleaning ALL temporary files and getting rid of lots of programs and files I don't use or need anymore so I am taking care of that.

    BUT....

What are the recommended virtual memory values for the minimum and maximum fields???What should the minimum and maximum virtual memory values be?
System Managed Size is best. However, if you keep getting these messages you may need to upgrade your RAM

  • Total paging file size (virtual memory) won't keep its settings.?

I have a dell xps 400 running on windows xp. I started having problems where programs would shut themselves down or portions of my programs wouldn't run. Then it started telling me I didn't have enough virtual memory.

I checked the virtual memory. It was set on system managed size, but would never allocate itself more than the 1553 mb that were recommended. I changed it to custom size, with a minimum of 2500 mb and a maximum of 3500 mb.

This works great and fixed all my problems, only now when I reboot my computer it changes itself back to system managed size with 1553 mb. Anyone know how to fix this???Total paging file size (virtual memory) won't keep its settings.?
That 1553 is what the computer uses normally. It will always stay at that number if the computer stays the same. Increasing the number doesn't really change what the computer will use, it will just allow that allocated memory to be used if say your computer starts using a lot of resources. If the setting sticks and your computer is running better you should not worry about it.

If it resets back to the old setting after you reboot then it means your CMOS battery is failing.Total paging file size (virtual memory) won't keep its settings.?
    oh yes good ol dell
Click the 'SET' button on the screen of the virt. mem. settings before you click 'OK'. This button is positioned right next to the min/max values you set for the virtual memory.
You have to remember to press the [set] button. I had a friend do that. If that doesn't work you may have to do a reinstall XP

I checked Microsoft's knowledge base and came up with nothing on this issue. But that's not saying much.

Also as a recommendation set the minimum and maximum size to the same thing. This prevents addition and removal of ';allocated'; space and that cuts down on writing overall.
I have a Dell, but I never had that problem.

But make sure you know your computer details.

The store sales man will tell you all the details about memory capacities and prices.A ';two-fer';. How do I buy more RAM and/or increase memory (other than virtual) on my PC?
I used to have trouble getting the exact ram, so now I go to www.memoryx.com. They will scan your system, and tell you what modules to order. (however since they are expensive, I jot down the info, and find the best price for what I need. (PNY is the best; I tred Kingston, but it was defective stuff)

    Good Luck

How do I play a Java game with this Error message??

Hi, I really need some basic instructions, as I'm quite computer iliterate. Every time I try and play a game that uses Java, I get this message

Too many Java virtual machines in the same process (or something)

I've heard you have to change the memory, but I don't know how to do that, or, if anyone has any other suggestions, could you please help....

I've already run a scan, so there are no viruses causing this. And there are no other games happening at the same time.

Thanks in advanceHow do I play a Java game with this Error message??
In general, with Java you want to download the latest version. You may first have to remove any traces of the previous installation - if so, do that in your control panel/add remove programs.

How can I get Championship Manager 00/01 to work on Windows XP?

I am trying to get Championship Manager 00/01 to work on Windows XP. It appears it is not compatible so I have changed selected compatibility to Win 95. Now the program loads but says it does not have enough available system memory to create game. I have changed the Page File virtual memory to 3400mb. I have hard disk space of 198Gb, I am running XP and have a dual processor 2.8 ghz and 2.79 ghz, I can't understand this. How can I get Championship Manager 00/01 to work on Windows XP?
since it is 00/01 it is probably DOS based. Older games designed for 98/me just used a dos shell to work sometimes. win2k/xp can emulate DOS, but it often has some problems. I suggest you get the latest football manager anyway because it is a better game with updated stats.

Clean out your temporary internet files.. Go through your control panelDoes any1 know what ';low on virtual memory'; means, and wot I can do to sort it. Makes ebay dead slow!! shaz
It means your computer does not have enough energy to support all the applications it is running
defrag your computer its the memory thats low and u need to check your setting in control panel / display...
Virtual memory is the use of hard drive space to augment physical memory. Usually that error message means that you are low on hard drive space. If you are using Windows XP, you can use the Disk Cleanup wizard to assist you in freeing space. It is located in Programs -%26gt; Accessories -%26gt; System Tools.
you can increase it, heres how you do it. start %26gt; right click my computer %26gt; properties %26gt; go under advanced tab %26gt; under performance click settings %26gt; go on advanced tab %26gt; under virtual memory click change %26gt; set maximun to 4000mb and then click set, then ok 3x
Run Disk Cleanup from the System Tools section or download a cleaner like CCleaner. It's mostly stuff from internet that you've visited. Cleaning out the Temporary Internet Files, Recycle bin, Clearing the cache, deleted any restore points, etc.
    hard disk full maybe?
it mean that you're running out of memory, operating system can't handle your requests, in technical terms OS is running out of frames so it can't perform paging.

You should either upgrade your computer (or buy some more RAM memory), or close some applications if it is the case that you're working simultaneously with a lot programs, browsers opened etc.

Most consuming in terms of memory are applications like photoshop, corel draw, etc, so make sure you don't leave programs opened unnecessarily.

    regards,
You need to increase the size of you page file size - on Windows XP you need to do the following:

1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2.Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System (on some systems you can click directly on System from Control Panel)

3.On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.

4.On the Advanced tab, under Virtual memory, click Change.

5.Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file that you want to change.

6.Under Paging file size for selected drive, click to select the System managed size check box, and then click Set.

    7.Click OK three times.

When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
on posting your question you need to post how much memory your computer has,it sounds like windows is swapping out virtual memory with rem memory,,this is caused,by either to small of a hard drive,or lack of enough ram memory, also keep your comp defragged, and clean up,and free memory space on drive c,,this is very important, especially on computers with small amounts of ram, keep all this clean, and you should have enough to run it ,,if the problem occurs again,i would suggest a small memory upgrade,,hope this help,s solve it.
Good advice here.Go to start..control panel..add or remove proframmes. From that list unload everything you use rarely. Then go to tools..options..clear cookies and temporary files.
    1* Go to START %26gt; SEARCH/FIND %26gt; *tmp

    Delete your temporary folders

2* Go to IE %26gt; INTERNET OPTIONS %26gt; TOOLS %26gt; DELETE COOKIES, FILES AND INTERNET HISTORY

3* Delete any programs and files you do not need anymore

4* Download and run a freeware program called Ccleaner, it will get rid of useless folers and files left behind when software has been uninstalled or deleted

5* Run all your spyware, malware and virus programs

6* Stop programs you don't use every day from starting automatically when Windows starts like a scanner or printer, they can be started manually when you want to use them

7* Get some new memory added, it's easy to do and not too expensive

8* Do a disk Clean up and then Defrag, it's best to defrag your comp overnight as it can take a while depending on when you last did it

Everything on your computer takes up memory space but your computer also needs some memory to work properly so you can surf %26amp; go on E-bay, windows uses virtual memory so the computer can still work when it is low on memory space for the computer to work.

You have so many files, folders, software, music etc on your computer that most of the memory is used up in storing these files and music so it needs more to run properly.

It's easy to add more memory and theres plenty of tutorials on the web on how to do it.
virtual memory means the number of megabites used on your ram so if you want to increase it you need to bye another ram or also you can do the following press %26gt;ctrl+alt+delete%26gt;click on the processes tab and then close any processes that you donnot need and you should take care not to close any processes that belong to the system from the_cool_bazooka and iwant you to visit my website and tell me if it is working or not please and it http://192.168.1.7/
You have all said the same thing and not mentioned the most obvious... what programs are running or are loaded into memory...... what has already been said is correct but you also may need to tune up your start up programs... things like msoffice or msworks, yahoo messenger, msn meessenger steam, and about a million other programs that want to be in your start up and permanently reside in your memory. go to start%26gt;run and type MSconfig %26gt; startup tab go through the list anything that resides in program files can be safely switched off
    Run startup.exe at:

    http://www.mlin.net/startupcpl.shtml....

Can't live without it and windows...

Then disable and/or uninstall whatever u don't need.
