First, you should establish why your machine is running out of virtual memory. This usually happens due to one of the following reasons (there are more than this, but this list is not exhaustive):

- lack of physical RAM (in Windows XP, see Task Manager/Performance tab/Physical Memory);

- a process is using memory spuriously (see Processes tab, then Mem Usage column. The CPU column may help in identifying any processes using too much CPU too);

If you're using Windows XP, I would recommend at least 512MB of physical RAM be installed in your machine, however, as you seem to have only recently been experiencing this issue, I suspect it's a rogue process.

May I also suggest you run AdAware, SpyBot: Search and Destroy, and do a virus scan. Some viruses/adware use memory spuriously.Two weeks ago virtual memory was low but now all of a sudden im not able to find out if it is low .how do i f
VM is a setting in windows that uses the hard drive to store memory that helps your RAM. Making the VM initial size 288MB was the correct thing to do. But, adding more RAM to any computer will help it run faster/better. To see the VM settings: right click ';My Computer';, choose properties, then choose ';advanced';, click the ';settings'; (under ';performance';), click ';advanced'; and then click ';change';. You're better off letting the system manage your VM. But, make sure your hard drive is not full (or has at least the maximum VM setting size available) or this will not work.
