Changing my ram+ virtual memory?

I been told that to play a game i got i need to change the Ram+ virtual memory to at least 4 GIB, but how do i do this? Tha game often keeps crashing mid level to say my virtual memory is low and windows is increasing it.

How can i do something about this?Changing my ram+ virtual memory?
Ram is your physical memory, you can only change it by adding more. However Windows assigns virtual memory. If you have Windows XP, here's how to increase the amount of virtual memory available:

Go to Control Panel and open System.

Click on the Advanced tab.

Under Performance click Settings

Click the Advanced tab of Performance Options

On Virtual Memory click Change

Select Custom and Enter the Maximum size, which should be at least 4096 MB to satisfy your game's demand for memory.

Close the System settings windows by clicking OK (three times I think).

Now when you are playing the game don't run any other applications, don't connect to the Internet (unless you have to) and disable your firewall and antivirus. That will make more memory available for the game.

Very simply, RAM can be accessed quickly whereas virtual memory takes longer. It's better to use as little virtual memory as possible, but if your game needs it you've got to supply it.

If you don't have 4 GB free space on your drive you won't be able to supply the virtual memory.

What I've described might affect your PC's performance so make a note of any settings you change. In fact you could try setting the Initial size and Maximum size as the same (high) figure, since Windows does have to do work in resizing the paging file (which provides the virtual memory). The settings may be optimum for your game but not other applications.Changing my ram+ virtual memory?
whoa.... no game requires 4gb of ram. at least not yet.

ram is not something you can just change. you add to it. what you need to do is to buy sticks of ram that are compatible with your motherboard and open up your computer. once your computer is open, you insert the ram and your done.

windows doesnt actually increase the ram... i actually dont know what they do when that happens.
4 GIG thats some game man ,dont think you need that much but wont do any harm i suppose might cost you though ,about 1 gig is usuall ok,and you get someone to put more memory on your pc ,like a new mem carsd
You can change your VM by going to My Computer%26gt;Properties%26gt;Advanced%26gt;Performance Settings%26gt;Advanced%26gt;Virtual Memory%26gt;Change. If you are going to set your VM to 4GB, you should have at least 2GB of actual RAM, otherwise you will have other problems.
RAM cannot be increased while a program is running because it is hardware. Virtual Memory is part of the Hard Disk memory which is allocated to increase the memory for running a program. It is used almost the same way as RAM is used but it is slow in comparison. Data is stored in the virtual memory when an application is running, and deleted when the application is closed. If you play a game and store a lot of data, the virtual memory will have to be increased. If you have sufficient RAM of say 1GB the virtual memory will not be required.
