Change the size of virtual memory?

In wins Vista I'm trying learn how to improve the computers performance, at control panel%26gt; use tools to improve performance. The computer reports of a problem of using excessive paging and need to make more virtual memory space, my question, is this a critical issue

Yes, it is a critical issue but how you resolve it is up to you.

How much RAM do you have? Virtual memory is a slow hard disk alternative to RAM when your computer needs more memory than is available in RAM. Probably the best way to fix this error is to install more RAM. I highly suggest not having much less than 2 GB to run Vista reliably because it will use up almost 1 GB right off the bat.

If you don't want to cough up money for more RAM, you could turn off various unneeded services, including all of its new visualization features. There are various how-tos on the net the explain what can be turned off and how. Also try to minimize the number of applications you are running.

Finally, you could increase your paging file as described in the link you provided. This would probably be the least ideal as you will notice a performance hit because your hard disk will need to be accessed more frequently. It is the easiest solution, so it wouldn't hurt to give it a go.Change the size of virtual memory?
If this happens over a very long period of time, the increased usage of your hard drive (reading and writing from/to the virtual memory all the time) may wear on it and decrease its lifespan a little. Really, the best thing you could do is buy some additional physical RAM for your computer (making sure it's the same kind as what's already in there, of course) so it doesn't have as much need to use virtual memory.
