How can i get more RAM for installing vista?

I'm trying to install Vista Home Premium on my pc but it always says that i only have 250mb or RAM and i need more. I looked up the microsoft website to see how to fix this problem, and i came to a page that said i could get more RAM manualy by ajusting the RAM by right clicking on My Computer, going to Properties/ Advanced/ Performance/ Settings/ Advanced then Virtual Memory, clicking on Change going to Custom size and changing the ammount in Initial Size and Maximum size, but this doesn't help. Is there any way to do it by using my HDD for RAM? Or do i HAVE to buy more? Also i have a 160gb external HDD, is there any way i can incorperate this into solving the problem or getting more RAM?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated, thanx =]How can i get more RAM for installing vista?
What they are refering to is called the page file. This is a section of the hard drive that is used for virtual ram. This should always be set to at least 1.5 times the actual ram amount. I would have to tell you that this set by windows, so if you were trying to install and vista said no. There would be nothing you could do. Besides Vista needs a little more ram than XP did, especially if you are moving to vista because you like it's looks and eye candy.

On th bright side, ram is cheap now days. All you do is buy it, crack the case, and stick it in. There is a little more to it than that, but as for physical work, that's it. Make sure you check out what kind of ram you already have and make it match (you can put in one with a larger amount on it, just make sure latency, frequency and such match). Or you could just buy all new ram, but make sure it compatible with your machine.

Make sure whatever you choose to do, that you put the largest dimm in the #1(farthest left) slot. How can i get more RAM for installing vista?
Virtual memory IS using your hard drive as RAM. Although its not recommended because your hard drive is so much slower then RAM.

Running 4 tabs of Firefox, Steam and Vista is using 1.3 GB of RAM on my computer. If you were to use 1 GB of virtual memory as your RAM your computer would run so incredibly slow. You either need to buy more RAM sticks or buy a new computer.
As another poster stated...Virtual Memory IS using your HDD...and the more VM you use, the faster your HDD will need replacing.

It would have helped had you posted your PC's stats so we could tell you exactly what the issue is...but, in any case, if you go to the Microsoft (not MSN) website. Or, just use the link below and click on the blue bar that says ';Download Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor';. It will tell you if your computer can RUN Vista.

As for RAM...to run Vista well, you'll need about 2gb minimum, because Vista monopolises a full gigabyte to itself, and if you're only running 1gb, any programs you run will have to fight the OS for resources.

Good Luck!
