I frequently get the message 'you are low on virtual memory'?

So i went to change it but i dnt know what to change it to. My computer says:

Space available: 255

initial size(MB): 384

maximum size: 768

whatever i try to change it to, however, i get the msg 'There is not enough space on this drive for the paging file size specified. Please enter a smaller number or free some disk space.'

How do i free some disk space

Please include step-by-step instructions.

THanksI frequently get the message 'you are low on virtual memory'?
You are evading the real issue. You don't have enough RAM. If you are getting these warnings, there are two possibilities:

- too many programs running; which could include Spyware or a Virus.

- really just too little RAM.

Keep your anti-spyware solution up to date, and run a full scan every few days. I recommend the free SpyBot Search %26amp; Destroy that you can get from http://www.download.com

Look up your computer at Crucial.com and see what your system has. if you are running Windows XP, you should have 512MB. With Windows Vista, you should have 2GB. check here: http://www.jdoqocy.com/click-2594269-503

Good luck and Happy Computing!I frequently get the message 'you are low on virtual memory'?
Maybe you need to buy some more virtual memory. It isn't very expensive.
set it to 1024 min 2048 max
you will need to upgrade your RAM eventually. (virtual memory)

But, to get by, don't run so many things at once.

Check your processes running (control alt del) Processes.

Make sure unnecessary stuff isn't running...like Itunes helper, if you're not using itunes, etc.

make sure you clear your temp files and cookies in IE, or firefox or whatever you use regularly.
I used to get that too. What I did was I first went to the control panel.

Then click on ';System';

Then there will be several tabs (ex. System Restore, Automatic Updates, Hardware, etc.) Click on the Advanced tab.

Then click on ';settings'; under ';performance';.

And click on ';Adjust for best performance';.

The toolbar will change to a ';Classic version'; or the Windows 98 Version but it speeds up the computer a little. If you don't like the settings then just click on ';Adjust for best appearance';. The message stopped popping up for me after i did it. Good Luck
You have low disk space. try to change your paging/virtual memory. If you this this will give you minimal improvement and still get the same message in the couple of days. What best you can do is to add some RAM and maybe Add some HD too.
Windows uses virtual memory , aka page files, to supplement the amount of physical memory or RAM your computer has. Virtual memory is stored on your hard drive. Hard drove access speed it very slow commpared to your computers RAM. It is best to let windows manage your virtual memory size. If it is to small you will get errors and your system will hang or crash, too big and your performance will suffer.
Hello,

First... please put the specs of your computer and also the operating system you are using, so that we will know if you have enough disk space, this error will display if you open too many programs and you have not enough memory, base on your virtual memory, you only have 256mb memory on your computer and if you have built-in video card, then your memory available for your program is less than 256mb, by the way virtual memory is created by your operating system to help your computer to run applications or programs that needs greater memory, my advice is you most upgrade your memory and if your are running heavy applications or programs, close the other programs that are running, also you can free some disk space, by clicking start, all programs, accessories, disk tools, disk cleanup, to clean the temporary files.
You probably have to many running processes on start-up. Go to run in the start tab (left hand side bottom) type in msconfig - now you will see a box that says System Configuration. select Selective start-up uncheck some things. For instance Yahoo messenger MSN messenger. Make sure you know what you are unchecking or you could mess yourself up. If this does not work there are a few other things to try.
Your problem is that you are running out of hard disk space.

Windows uses your hard drive as ram, thus the ';virtual'; memory. You have only 255 MB of free space in your drive, but your VM setting is for a minimum of 384 MB. That is the reason you are getting the message. I bet if you set your VM to a minimum AND a maximum of 200MB, you will stop getting the message.

You should consider either adding a second hard drive, or upgrading the one you have for a larger one. The only other option is to uninstall programs or remove data (songs, videos, etc.) to free up space.

A good starting point is to run the Disk Cleanup utility in Windows. It will clear out most temporary files and internet history. If you have never run it, you'll be amazed at how much space it will clear up. You get to it via Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup.

Hope this helps!
I assume that you got a little balloon in the bottom right-hand corner announcing that your virtual memory is low and that Windows is adjusting it. If this happens just once, don't worry攁s the message said, Windows found a problem and fixed it. But if it happens repeatedly, it could be that your settings don't allow Windows to make the necessary adjustment. First, make sure your drive isn't overly full. In Windows Explorer, right-click the drive icon and choose Properties. If the amount of free space is under about 10 percent, you'll need to free up some space. You can use the Disk Cleanup button right next to the free space indicator, or manually move some files to off-line storage, or uninstall unnecessary applications攚hatever it takes to get more free space.

If low drive space isn't the problem, the virtual-memory settings may be wrong. Right-click My Computer and choose Properties. Click the Advanced tab. Click the Settings button in the Performance panel. Click the Advanced tab in the Performance dialog. Click the Change button in the Virtual memory panel.! This setting is buried quite thoroughly! Look for the System managed size option, select it if it isn't already selected, and then click OK, . That should end the warnings.
