Virtual Memory Too Low for The Sims 2?

I had always been able to play the Sims 2 with no problems in my laptop. However, some days ago, I started getting this message saying Virtual Memory too low. I haven't been able to play since. What is the reason behind this? How to fix it? The desktop and taskbar suddenly changed after my computer sent me a message saying it was trying to increase the virtual memory. Also, could it be because i got videos in my computer that are... too large? Please give me any possible reasons and solutions and thanks in advance!Virtual Memory Too Low for The Sims 2?
Virtual Memory is space on the hard disk which WIndows uses for swapping pages (its own, not yours). Programs are written in little sections, it loads in the ones it currently needs and swaps out bits not needed. IT also swaps in and out a lot of your data, eg when you go to one screen in Sim it swaps out the other screen details so it can later give it back to you.

Trouble is, Windows never knows when enough is enough. IT keeps all these bits and pieces even when you turn off the computer. So the file gets humungeously big, it takes it forever to open it up (and close in when you quit) and ages to manage it.

Solution:

Kill the old virtual memory file and make a new one.

Control Panel %26gt; System%26gt; Performance%26gt;Virtual Memory (you might nee to go to Advanced first to get to this)

Uncheck ';let Widnows manahe my memory(recommended)'; and check ';let me manage the memory';

This lets you enter figures, put 50 for minimum and 200 to 500 for max (depends how big your hard drive is). Reboot the machine. Then you will see in c:\ a file called Win386.swp which will always be the same size because it is CLEARED OUT every day (but it can grow while in use).

If you're doing a VERY long session with lots of changes and you get the message again (or it just slows down a lot) SAVE the game, reboot the machine, to restart with a nice empty swap file again.

Good luck

Edit: preloaded programs, viruses etc to my knowledge don't use virtual memory, they sit in the real memory (RAM). Windows will use virtual memory for lots of stuff even when there's plenty of RAM available. OF COURSE do virus and spyware check your machine regularly, it's the PC equivalent of having a shower every day.Virtual Memory Too Low for The Sims 2?
I am not sure how to fix this exactly, but there are a range of Sims 2 games that are made laptop friendly: Castaway Stories, Pet Stories and Life Stories. They are inexpensive and will work on your laptop. I don't think the Sims 2 is really meant for a laptop, which is why they made these games so try them instead.

virtual memory is an extension of the ram on your computer. when you overload the ram, the virtual memory kicks in. the virtual memory uses your hard drive like ram. now if your computer had been doing this a lot before and now you are close to full on space there and it can't do this anymore, that would be the problem.
scan for viruses and all that usual crap, then check your system tray (the area next to the clock) for stuff that you ain't using now. you probably got a boat load of stuff preloading. in theory it's supposed to make it faster but when different programs compete with each other, it ultimately will slow the machine down %26amp; you end up running out of virtual memory
Check whether your C: drive is 25% empty or not, Coz due to unavailability of this 25% space the system prompts for Virtual Memory too low.
