Getting ';blue screen of death'; anyone able to help?

It was working fine last night turned it on this morning and bam blue screen.

now yesterday was a fun day as far as problems with it go, i changed the virtual memory from i think 8gigs to 10ish i don't think that's the problem i have a pretty powerful machine.Although i don't think i turned it of after i did this since i changed them at the same time.

Also i had been trying to get some movies of a CD just copy and paste not sure if it was because the CD was scratched or something but it kept freezing explorer and stuff so i had to restart a couple times than after i got annoyed from restarting my computer for the 50th time i went to the control panel/system/advanced/startup and recovery/ there's a button under system failure/automatically restart i unticked the button, i don't think it was turned of after that so that could be the prob not sure.

But when i turned it off it froze so i did a bit of the AltCtrlDel but didn't do much so turned it of at the power button, normally i take very good care of it but i didn't think anything of it at the time.

A friend i don't see anymore set up the computer so cant tell you much about the OS other than that its xp.

the blue screen says ';UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME'; than the generic stuff

also cant get passed it i can use my keyboard to get to BIOS but after that i think it dies or something so i cant put it in safe mode, and cant press the ';any key'; to run an install cd

i don't want to do a clean install at least until i can get my stuff of as i have about 400gigs of stuff if i can save it some how that would be great

also don't want to poke around in BIOS to much don't want to turn it into a brick

not sure if any of that helps but any input would be appreciated.Getting ';blue screen of death'; anyone able to help?
The Windows operating system constantly refers to the registry to get information about all of the components such as hardware and software which are installed on the computer. The registry tells Windows what to do and how to access the various programs, files, and processes. However, the registry can contain bad information which sends Windows off doing useless tasks or running unneeded routines. Sometimes errors occur including the blue screen of death. Other times the system slows down. Because of the sheer number of factors that can affect the registry, there檚 no one size fits all approach. You can檛 just go into the registry and remove the bad information because it檚 nearly impossible to decipher which information is good and which information is bad. That檚 a job better suited for software. I should like to commend Registry Easy http://cleanup-comuter-run-perfectly.com to you ! You can try ! Good luck!Getting ';blue screen of death'; anyone able to help?
You can install the hard drive into another computer and copy stuff off of it then format it.

You can boot to the Windows disk and tell it to do a ';Repair.'; That might fix it.

You can buy a new hard drive, install it, load a clean installation of windows, then try to copy all the stuff over to the new hard drive. Format the old hard drive and use it to back up stuff on your new hard drive in case something like this happens again. After all, it is possible that you have lost everything that is on your hard drive. Not a sure thing, but possible. It doesn't hurt to have a second drive for backing up stuff.

Good luck.
Try unplugging your computer from the power for a few minutes, that can help with some of such problems.

But the unmountable boot volume really means there is something wrong with the boot device. You did not by any chance plug an external hard disk in a USB port that is now be accessed to boot? Because that can also happen.
